OK, I’m stuck in a rut and am beginning to obsess (maybe that’s too strong of a word). But since Russ bought a new flat screen TV with his tax return money, our living room is in shambles (again, maybe too strong of a word). Really though, our furniture has been rearranged which I like, but since we sold our entertainment center which was the focal point of the room, I’m struggling with how to decorate a functional and appealing room. The TV is now hanging in the corner of the room on the wall and I have a full wall with pictures hanging on it, but no couch under them so they look really high on the wall and awkward. Do we do brown or black accents? We currently have both colors in the room (picture frames and curtains).
An artsy friend of mine once told me to choose the feeling that I want to get from the room. Very wise, but how do I create a clean, comfortable, stylish yet functional feeling room? To me, browns are inviting and warm. But blacks are cleaner and more modern. Agh. Maybe if I go to IKEA in a few week’s I’ll get some inspiration. Does anyone have any ideas of books, or online sites that have practical decorating tips and pictures? Everything I’ve found has been just the opposite – like I’d really paint my walls an eggplant color and have bright white furniture?! PLEASE! Not with 2 kids and a St Bernard (who is impossible to keep off the couch).
