For better or for worse...

We love her...

I'll admit, it isn't easy. Especially when she barks, or drools, or sheds, or tears thru the garbage. BUT...

She does have her good qualities. Actually, I'll even go as far as to say these attributes make her one of the best dogs I've known. Every day without fail she greets us at the top of the steps with a huge grin and wagging tail as if to say I'm SO happy to see you, please pet me, I missed you so much! She's forever patient with the kids poking, prodding, and climbing on her. She really is a good sport. She's the most gentle creature, I don't think she could be vicious if she tried.

If you aren't a dog lover, bear with me for a few more minutes...I promise there's a point.

You know the saying, "Its a dogs life?" I often imagine what goes on inside that head of Dakota's. What do they think about? What do they spend all their time doing when we're at work? When they bark at other dogs are they really communicating with them or are they just seeing who can yell the loudest?

I guess where I'm going with this is that while my dog might be big and blubbery, even slow and not the smartest dog at times, what matters most to me is her dedication, devotion and relentless and unconditional love she has for me and my family. Despite all the times I've had to pick up the garbage that she's torn thru or run her to the vet for an eye or ear problem (that are apparently common in St. Bernard's), I take one look at this huge furry head and can't help but love her in return. She's a part of our family for better or for worse and we wouldn't give her up for anything (even though I've threatened to...a number of times...just recently as a matter of fact! :)
