Celebrating with Pride

We had a booming good time celebrating Memorial weekend at the Cascades fireworks on Saturday.  We spontaneously decided to go to the fireworks after Avah and Benn took late naps and didn't wake up until around 7:30pm.  I'm not sure what I was more excited about, the fact that we were going to the fireworks or the fact that we decided to do something spontaneous!

I have great memories as a child watching the fireworks with my cousins and LOVE everything about firework shows.  From the anticipation and excitement before the show to the rumbling thunderous booms of the finale.  For all of these reasons, I was super excited to share this opportunity with my family.

Patiently waiting for dusk.

All-American boy.  Literally, from the baseball hat, mitt, football jersey, and of course the flag.

All-American girlie girl.

This is how Benn passed the time waiting for the show to start.  Besides the fact that baseball is all this kid ever thinks about, we conveniently chose to sit NEXT to the little league baseball fields.  It was only a matter of seconds before this kid had his mitt and ball and was begging us to play catch.

Russ and the kids watching the fireworks!

Family picture!

This was probably the highlight of my night.  There was this thoughtful woman who sat behind us during the show and noticed that I was taking "a few" pictures throughout the evening and she offered to take a family photo.  I'm embarrassed and a little ashamed to admit that I was nervous to let this stranger hold my coveted camera, but snapped out of it quickly once I realized she was really just being sincere.  This gesture meant the world to me because this picture captures the memory of this most wonderfully spontaneous night that we enjoyed as a family celebrating the sacrifice of those who served in our Armed Forces.

Happy Memorial Day - 2012!
