Our day started like any other Sunday. I jumped in the shower and Russ got up and started helping get the kids ready for church. When I got out of the shower I was told NOT to come in Avah's room. I suppose they were finishing up some last minute Mother's day stuff, so I played along and said OK. Next thing I knew, the door flew opened and Benn came out running yelling, "I yo you, mom! I yo you!" He gave me a card that he was so proud of and said, "My got you dis ma." It was a gift certificate for a pedicure (something I love to have done, but its just not in the budget these days so its been longer than I care to admit since I've splurged on myself and had one done). Avah was just as excited. She told me she loved me and said "Happy Mother's Day" (with a little coaxing from dad). :) She also handed me a card from daddy and as well as a card she made at Pat's house. The card had butterflies and flowers on the front and looked like spring. On the inside, it read "Happy Mother's Day Love, Avah" and was dated "May 8, 2011." She wrote all of that! It was precious.
It was getting late and we needed to head to church. As I was finishing getting ready, out of the blue Benn came running up to me, grabbed my leg and said again, "I yo you mom! Happy Easter!" Ahhhhahhahhhhh! I laughed so hard I was almost crying. He was so excited to wish me a happy day that he got his holidays mixed up. :)
Finally we got around and were off to church. Mass was nice, we saw a lot of families there that we don't normally see and it was nice to chat with them (even if it was just to say a quick "Hi" and wish the mom's a happy Mother's day). After mass, we ran over to the airport for a late breakfast with Russ' mom, my mom and my brother. This was by far the BEST part of the day! We of course had a great time visiting with each other and the food was good too. The kids always like eating here because they get to see the planes come in and take off continuously while we eat (which usually results in them not eating much, but at least they're content and we get to have a nice meal without screaming children). Today was no exception. After our meal before we had paid the bill, the kids wanted to go out to see the planes one last time, so I volunteered to take them. It was a gorgeous day, sun shining and warm so I didn't mind. We couldn't have been out there for more than a minute when a pilot (Jerry) spotted us and noticed how excited Benn was to see the planes landing. Jerry so generously asked if the kids wanted to sit in an airplane. Benn's eyes lit up and he said "Yeahhhh!"
That's all Jerry needed to hear and he led us out on the runway for a tour of his plane. I'm not sure who was more excited, the kids or I. Jerry was really nice, he was patient and let the kids play with the controls a bit and he even indulged Russ and I with some fun facts and interesting tidbits about flying. We even posed for some pictures. We left and the kids couldn't stop talking about the planes.
The rest of the day we spent at home. Russ mowed and I caught upon some laundry. We played outside with the kids and grilled out. We even squeezed a walk in. Now its bed time and I'm again reflecting on how fortunate I am. This was by far the best Mother's Day ever!
