Chocolate Smiles

We enjoyed a "first" of the season tonight...hot chocolate. The kids have been begging to try some ever since they saw an episode of the Berenstain Bears drinking hot chocolate a few weeks ago. With the crazy weather this fall (one day we're wearing shorts, the next we've got the furnace on) it seems as though that just when I get in the mood for some nice warm hot chocolate, the weather becomes nice again.

So, I decided to pick some up today at the store along with a big bag of marshmallows (of course)!

After a late dinner, hot chocolate was just the thing we needed to wind down from the weekend.  The kids couldn't wait for the water to heat up so they could put their heaping piles of marshmallows on.  Then, as it always seems to go, the water was TOO hot.  So I dropped an ice cube in to hurry the cooling process along. Once the chocolatey goodness was perfect temperature (aka room temperature) the kids were let loose to sprinkle marshmallows, sip and enjoy.

Avah sipping away. She looks like she's done this before, don't you think?

Clearly, they enjoyed the marshmallow part of the process the best. Then they got a kick out of pretending that they were just like momma, papa and gamma as they sipped pretend coffee out of their mugs. To tell you the truth, there wasn't a lot of drinking going on though and after a short 10 minutes or so, they were over it. Ready to move on to the next thing.

It was fun while it lasted and I've got some great memories of enjoying our first cups of hot cocoa together.
