We've had an eventful couple of days around here, all centering around Benn's 3rd birthday. I love birthdays and believe we'll ALWAYS celebrate them...for our kids, for us, our parents, etc. Birthdays have so much more meaning now that I'm a parent. I love reflecting on their actual BIRTH days then fast forwarding through all the highlights and milestones they've reached up to this point. It feels like yesterday and I'm still so amazed that God has blessed us with these two angels of His.
Our traditions include a birthday party (of course) and a smaller intimate, much lower key get together with grandparents, aunts and uncles one's actual birthday. For Benn's actual birthday we kept with tradition and planned a quaint dinner at our house. Some lasagna, baseball cupcakes, and family. At least, that was the plan. When we got home from work that day, we let Benn open his presents from Russ, Avah and I. He made out pretty well and one of the things he got was this basketball hoop. He was SO excited, so Russ worked to put it together and hang it up on the hall door before family arrived while I was busy getting dinner on the table. Benn was playing and having a good time until we heard this horrible thud which just happened to be Benn colliding with the corner of the hallway wall as he was chasing the basketball. I grabbed ice while Russ applied pressure to his head to try to stop the bleeding. Very scary! So, we apologized to our parents who were just arriving, rushed around to grab our wallets, and we left in a panic to rush him to the ER. Luckily the bleeding stopped once we got to the ER and it wasn't serious. They put some glue on the gash then sent us on our way. We got back in plenty of time for cupcakes (although we missed dinner - which was fine) and to open presents. Looking back, we knew this day was coming...not his 3rd birthday, but his first trip to the ER. We're just thankful it wasn't serious and to be honest, a little surprised that it took 3 years for him to have an injury that we couldn't fix with a little comforting and a bandaid.
The Gash.
Thanks Grandma H, Uncle Matt and Aunt Amber for the new bike!
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Gaston for the bat bag!
We continued the celebration with Benn's friends on Saturday at Extra Innings. I'd never been there, but thought it would be the perfect place to have a birthday party for a toddler whose every waking moment is spent thinking, playing or reading about baseball. :) It turned out to be a great day. The facility was perfect for our little slugger and all his pals. Here are some shots from the day.
The cake. Appropriate don't you think?
The goodie bags.
The banner.
Friends Gibson, Aubree, Brody, and Kellen
Some action shots of a friendly game of whiffle ball

Sliding into home!
The Triple Play, three musketeers, and triple trouble. :)
Blowing out his candles.
Opening gifts.
It's 7pm, we're home and the kids are both crashed (probably for the rest of the night!). We've unpackaged all of Benn's toys so that he can play with them when he wakes up. We're enjoying some quiet time together and basking in the peace that the day has brought after an eventful birthday week.
Thank you to all who were able to join us to celebrate Benn's 3rd birthday party. We had a grand slamming good time and feel blessed to have been able to share it with you.
