Kicking off the Year of Vacations with...a VACATION!

We've been doing this budget thing and trying to put every last penny towards our student loan debt to get it paid of as soon as possible. Because of this, our vacations have been extremely limited. We did splurge in August and went to Traverse City, but other than that we've been homebodies. 2011 changed all that. Our debt is finally paid off and we're ready to explore, so what better time to start than January 1st?!?

Some friends of ours invited us to Splash Universe to celebrate New Years Eve.  In addition to not being well rounded travelers, we rarely do anything exciting for New Years, now that we have kids.  There's no dressing up, rarely do we go out, and to be honest this all makes it difficult to stay up until midnight.

But this year was different, we actually planned to do something. Our amazing neighbors invited us to join them at Splash Universe to ring in the new year. It was a blast and the kids had so much fun. Us grown ups had fun too!  So much so, that we may just need to make this an annual trip.  So thankful that Adam and Melissa wanted to share their very last memories of 2011 and first moments of 2012 with us and our kids.

The first think the kids did when we got to the room was to jump on the bed. This was the only picture I could get of them sort of sitting still.

The water park, full of slides, a lazy river, and a mini splash pad for the little ones.

This is Benn obeying the rules and going down feet first, but only after he got in trouble by the lifeguard for going down headfirst and backwards. Crazy kid!

He's swimming around like a fish, my water baby!

The gang all snug in their jammies. We were all surprised that they actually made it to midnight. But not so surprised that they zonked out at 12:05am.

The next day the kids wanted to brave the big kid slides. Notice at the very top, there's a bucket of water just beginning to pour...

This is half of a second later. The kids couldn't wait!

Coming out of the twisty slide like a champ.

Girl power conquered the giant twisty slide and came out smiling.

Girlfriends. Can't think of a better way to have started 2012.

We're looking forward to what seems like a flurry of vacations in 2012. I just hope our pocket book can keep up.  Look for updates of our adventures to come!
