Benny turned 2 this month and we (of course) threw him a big party. I went a little overboard with the creative decorations (a lot of time and effort) but it all came together at the last minute with a ton of help from my mom and SIL. Thanks guys, I couldn’t have done it without you!
If you know me, you wouldn’t be surprised to hear that I had everything planned and set (as far as the food and location were concerned) weeks ago. I’d been watching Darrin Rockcole all week and he told me the weather for the party would be spectacular. So, I felt pretty good about Benn’s upcoming OUTDOOR party.
The morning of the party, we loaded the car up with the kids’ gift boxes, balloons, cupcakes, decorations, etc and set off to pick up the food. On my way in town to pick up the food from Mat’s Café (they have amazing pulled pork), it started raining. Not just any rain, but a steady down pour accompanied by some thunder…oh, and let’s not forget about the lightening too! Thanks Darrin for your stellar weather predictions. Thankfully, the party was at a park that had a covered pavilion so the (apparently unpredictable) weather wasn’t a big deal. After picking up the heavenly smelling pulled pork (9 lbs to be exact) and 5 lbs of macaroni and cheese, I made a quick stop home to grab some towels (to dry off the slides) and my SIL and off we went to set up for the party.
It turned out to be a great day. Mild and just a little bit damp, but the kids didn’t seem to mind. Everyone came to celebrate and Benn was so happy. I’m sure that his favorite part was playing baseball with all the boys (kids and dads alike). We played, ate and sang “Happy Birthday” (but no wishes were made because I forgot the candle and matches – bummer) then corralled the kids to help open presents.
It’s funny how things work themselves out. I thought having the party at a park with slides, jungle gyms and swings would be what every 2 year old could dream of, but apparently, the full sized baseball field next to the playground was a bigger hit (no pun intended!). We are so thankful to everyone who came to celebrate with our little guy. It was truly a birthday to remember. We are extremely blessed.
My does 2 years go by fast! It seems like just yesterday when we were cheering him on as he took his first steps. Fast forward 8 months and he’s 2 already. I’m looking forward to all the milestone’s that the age of 2 brings, talking non-stop, potty training (wishful thinking), and more independence. I’m trying not to blink because I’m afraid I’ll miss something. Happy birthday Benny Boo, we love you and couldn’t be more proud of you.
